Our Vision and Mission:
Vision Statement
The vision of the Cameron Intermediate School Library Media Center is to provide a welcoming place with equitable access for all learners; students, teachers and the community. These life-long learners will become evaluators and sharers of information, problem-solving leaders, collaborators and lovers of reading.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Cameron Intermediate School Library Media Center will be to empower the school community to become leaders through the effective use of information in a variety of formats. The Library Media Center will support the curriculum, collaborate with teachers, develop a collection that reflects its community, and implement literacy instruction in order to prepare students for life.
Long-Term Goals and Objectives
Goal #1: To foster a love of reading and encourage the curiosities of students and teachers.
Objectives:
Order high interest materials, with the input of stakeholders.
Ask staff at the beginning of the year what one thing the library could do differently this year to make it a place they utilize.
Three different reading promotions will be held throughout the school year.
Goal #2: To participate in partnerships that support reading and enhance access to resources.
Objectives:
Communicate the mission, vision, goals, and objectives of the library to all stakeholders during back to school activities and on the newly created library website.
Create opportunities for students and parents to create, tinker, discover, collaborate, explore, build, and share during extended library hours at least once a month.
Collaborate with grade level teams on a monthly basis to support the curriculum.
Goal #3: Provide instruction to foster competence and stimulate an interest in reading, viewing, using, and sharing information and ideas.
Objectives:
Librarian will provide lessons each month to promote reading and digital literacy.
Students will create and share four different projects throughout the year to showcase their learning using at least two different formats.

Selection Philosophy:
The main objective of our selection procedure is to provide students with a wide range of educational materials on all levels of difficulty and in a variety of formats, with diversity of appeal, allowing for the presentation of many points of view.
The main objective of the library media center collection is to make available to students and faculty a collection of materials that will enrich and support the curriculum and meet the needs of the faculty and the needs of the students. Because students have a wide range of individual needs, abilities and learning styles, emphasis must be placed on providing background material, in a variety of levels and types to supplement classroom instruction, encourage individual intellectual curiosity, creativity, and imagination, and provide a broad range of materials on controversial issues to help students develop critical thinking and analytical skills.
